Fine structure of type III solar radio bursts from Langmuir wave motion in turbulent plasma

چکیده
The Sun frequently accelerates near-relativistic electron beams that travel out through the solar corona and interplanetary space. Interacting with their plasma environment, these produce type III radio bursts, brightest astrophysical sources seen from Earth. formation motion of fine frequency structures is a puzzle but commonly believed to be related turbulence in wind. Combining theoretical framework kinetic simulations high-resolution observations using Low Frequency Array, we quantitatively show are caused by moving intense clumps Langmuir waves turbulent medium. Our results how structure can used remotely analyse intensity spectrum compressive density fluctuations, infer ambient temperatures plasma, both significantly expanding current diagnostic potential emission.

In situ detection of strong Langmuir turbulence processes in solar type III radio bursts
[1] The high time resolution observations obtained by the WAVES experiment of the STEREO spacecraft in solar type III radio bursts show that Langmuir waves often occur as intense localized wave packets. These wave packets are characterized by short durations of only a few ms and peak intensities, which well exceed the supersonic modulational instability (MI) thresholds. These timescales and pea...
متن کاملKilometre-wave radio observations of solar type III bursts by Ulysses compared with decametre-wave observations from the Earth
Observations of solar type III bursts, made at kilometric frequencies by the radio receiver of the Ulysses Unified Radio and Plasma Wave (URAP) investigation, are compared with simultaneous observations, made at decametric frequencies at the Nançay Radio Astronomy Station of the ParisMeudonObservatory, during the period following the spacecraft encounter with Jupiter until the south solar polar...
متن کاملStopping Frequency of Type III Solar Radio Bursts in Expanding Magnetic Flux Tubes
Aims. Understanding the properties of type III radio bursts in the solar corona and interplanetary space is one of the best ways to remotely deduce the characteristics of solar accelerated electron beams and the solar wind plasma. One feature of all type III bursts is the lowest frequency they reach (or stopping frequency). This feature reflects the distance from the Sun that an electron beam c...
متن کاملNonlinear generation of type III solar radio bursts by the hybrid modulational instability
An improvedmodel of the fundamental plasma emission of type III solar radio bursts is presented. It is shown that nonlinear conversion of a traveling Langmuir pump wave into an electromagnetic wave can occur via either convective or absolute hybrid modulational instabilities, resulting from the coupling of two wave triplets, with the Langmuir pump wave and ion-acoustic daughter wave common to b...
متن کاملOF THE WORKSHOP : MECHANISMS FOR SOLAR TYPE lII RADIO BURSTS
In situ satellite observations of type III burst exciters at 1 AU show that the beam does not evolve into a plateau in velocity space, contrary to the prediction quasilinear theory. The observations can be explained by a theory that includes mode coupling effects due to excitation of the parametric oscillating two-stream instability and its saturation by anomalous resistivity. The time evolutio...
